Via Combusta

The moon is "via combusta" today, which in English means that it is between 15 degrees Libra & 15 degrees Scorpio.  It also means that it is a somewhat dark, moody, and atmospheric day.  The ancient old-fogey astrologers regarded this as a "sinister" time, a time to avoid making decisions or attempting much of importance.  During the via combusta, the energies seem both low & intense at the same time, oppressive and energetic at once.

I often feel "fuzzy" or "out of focus" during the via combusta time each month. Sometimes, I also feel tired or lethargic, but not always.  However, even if I *do* have energy during a via combust period (which usually only lasts 72 hours, maximum), I often find that I just can't focus on the project at hand or get it done right.

I've noticed that I'm not the only one affected by the via combusta, either.  People (especially spiritual unconscious people) seem to be a bit more hypersensitive than usual during this time of the month, and are easily set off by the mildest of situations.

And strange situations do sometimes arise during the via combusta, so it's easy to understand why people over-react...even still, that's all it is...over reacting.  If my husband & I have an argument or if my e-mail acts up during a via combusta, it usually clears up about the time the moon moves out of the via combusta, so I've learned not to get myself worked up into a tizzy.

I can understand why the ancients called this a "sinister" period, because people do seem to be a whole lot crabbier during the via combusta.  On the bright side, I've found that it is an excellent time to work with divination tools, study dreams, probe into the subconscious, and do in-depth emotional processing.

It *doesn't* seem to be the best time for anything that requires lots of physical energy or patience.  In fact, in a way, the via combusta period to me each month seems to be like the cosmic "Monday morning".  What I mean by that is that during the "via combusta" period each month, you might feel like you have to drag yourself out of bed to take care of some responsibility that you don't really want to take care of when all you really want to be doing is sleeping, meditating, or just laying around or doing something fun.

Then again, if you do get the chance to sleep, meditate, or party your way through the via combusta, it's probably not so bad after all.  (smile).

Below are the times & dates for the remaining "via combusta" periods in 2008.  Keep in mind that these are not necessarily "bad" days...just times when you may feel like you are walking in quick sand, moving a little bit slower than usual, and lighter on patience & compassion than usual.  (If you *do* feel this, remember that others are feeling this too, so do try to be nice, even if it is difficult!).

VIA COMBUSTA DATES   August through December 2008

Starts Wednesday, August 6th  and goes to Saturday August 9th.  Energies are probably strongest on Friday, August 8th.  Residual energies might last until Sunday, August 10th.

Tuesday, September 2nd through Thursday, September 4th.  Effect probably strongest on Thursday.  Residual energies last through Friday, September 5th.

Monday, September 29th through Thursday October 2nd (very early morning)  Energies most intense on Wednesday, October 1st.  Residual energies might last all the way through Thursday, October 2nd.

Monday, October 27th through Wednesday, October 29th (until mid to late afternoon).  Effect most intense around night of Tuesday, October 28th.  Residual energies into Wednesday night.  This via combusta period is likely to be exceptionally intense because it occurs during the New Moon period.

Sunday, November 23rd through November 25th.  Strongest all day Tuesday.  Residual effects continue into Wednesday, November 26th (the day before thanksgiving).

Saturday, December 20th through Monday, December 22nd.  Strongest all day & all night Monday, December 22nd.  Residual effect going into Tuesday, December 23rd.  Note:  This via combusta is likely to be enhanced because it takes place right around the Winter Solstice.

For additional "via combusta" dates, use an astrological planner or ephermis to look up when the moon is between 15 degrees Libra & 15 degrees Scorpio.
