Friends, hope your week is off to a terrific start. In the last few days, I’ve talked
with several people who told me that last week was EXTREMELY challenging for them in terms of emotional release
or just feeling “scattered” or low on energy. I, myself, was hit with another wave of deep grief, as I was forced
to admit to myself that a friendship I had been hanging on to was no longer salvageable. Indeed, as last
week progressed, and the energies intensified, it became clear to me that to even want to continue in this particular
relationship was a form of self-abuse and completely unhealthy. And so it was with great determination (but
also great sorrow) that I resolved to permanently “close the door” on this relationship and move on to other,
more healthy & supportive interactions. It was as if I was undergoing some kind of great emotional purge. The interesting
thing is that many of the people whom I spoke with last week also expressed that they were going through similar
things, even before I shared with them my own inner experience. Early in the week, I thought it was just me.
But then as the week progressed, more and more people (including myself)
began showing “symptoms” of what I call the “transformational blues”. Soon
it became apparent that we were all in a time of deep “spring cleaning”….a “spring
cleaning” of the heart and soul, and of the energies of the entire planet. Whenever I observe “purgings”
like these going on within large numbers of people, I always check the astrology to see what
might be “triggering” such deep level cleansing. To be honest, I was a little bit surprised
at the timing, as there were no quote-unquote “major” transits taking place last week, or at least, none that
would seem to be capable of triggering a collective release of this level. However, when I was doing my “astrological investigation”,
I did notice that we just had the full moon back on February 28th. This was just a
week ago from this last Sunday, and about a day before I started getting the reports from my clients about feeling “scattered”
or “overwhelmed”, and also right before I had the deep “purge” within myself. I figured I was probably on to something
with the “moon theme”, so I went a little deeper in my lunar investigations and noted the signs that
the moon was transiting through last week. That’s when I discovered
that the moon was in Libra or Scorpio for almost the entire time between Monday night and Friday of last week. This might not mean
much to you if you’re not an astrologer. In fact, even if you are an astrologer, it won’t
mean much to you unless you are familiar with the branch of astrology called “horary”. If you are a “horary”
astrologer, or at least, familiar with its workings, then you know that the time when the moon moves between 15 degrees Libra
to 15 degrees Scorpio (some say all the way to the end of Scorpio) is called Via
Combusta.
The “Via Combusta” time period is NOT considered a happy time.
In fact, the ancient astrologers called it an “evil” or “sinister” period. If
a horary chart was cast for a time that involved the “via combusta”, then there was said to be a “stricture
against judgment” and no answer for the question asked could be given until a later date. I don’t know if I would call it “evil”,
but the “via combusta” period that happens every month certainly does seem to be a somewhat awkward or
uncomfortable time for many. I have also noticed that strange, unpleasant things happen during this period,
and that we are often forced to encounter parts of ourselves (or our lives) that we’d rather not when the moon
is in the via combusta. Still, I wondered why this particular via combusta period was so intense. Again,
I checked for astrological aspects. None of the aspects I found seemed to make sense in terms of triggering
this kind of collective emotional release. However, I did notice that Mars was still retrograde.
Perhaps the mars retrograde did contribute to the intensity of this most recent “via combusta”,
as Mars is the traditional “ruler” of Scorpio, the sign that is the second portion of the “via combusta”. Also, when I was reviewing
the data, I noticed that Mars is about to go direct this week.
In fact, it will turn back direct this very Wednesday (March 10th) at
about Noon Eastern Standard Time (USA). Since Mars is the planet of action & inspiration, and a lot
of action has been “on hold” since Mars went retrograde back in December of 2009, maybe what is happening
is that many of us are being given one last opportunity to “clear out” before it’s time to go forward with
new action & initiative. Another point of interest I noticed that might be contributing to the intensity of the energies
is the Sun in Pisces. Pisces is arguably the most emotional sign of all (rivaled only by Cancer & Scorpio).
It is also a nebulous, dreamy, sensitive, mediumistic, empathic, and spiritually-orientated sign. It
is aligned with karmic connections, debts, and the fulfillment of one’s selfless sacrifice to society. Related to all of this, I’ve noticed a lot of people have been dealing with “martyrdom”
issues lately, and also with the challenge of how to be forgiving & love unconditionally without sacrificing
or hurting one’s self. Pisces is also connected with “prisons”
and “prisoners”. I think of this as meaning not only places of physical incarceration,
but also all the places & ways in which we are emotionally or spiritually imprisoned within ourselves.
Could it be that last week (and perhaps this week too) we were being “nudged” to acknowledge the places
within ourselves where we have kept ourselves “in chains”, and to set ourselves
free? In any case, I believe that what “triggered” last week’s flurry of purging & energetic
shift was the combination of Sun in Pisces, along with the Via combusta, topped off with a Mars retrograde about
to turn direct. Not to mention, it has been a long, hard winter in many places (at least for those of us
in the Northern Hemisphere).
